The Members

-Benjamin, also an architect, he is the drummer of the band;

-Silvano, also an executive at the Geneva hospital, he plays the role of solo guitarist;

-Jean-Marc, also professor of English and French, he is the bassist of the band;

- Patrick , also an executive in public administration, he plays the role of singer and rhythm guitarist.

Their Story...

The band in its current form was born in September 2017 from the ashes of "Black Roses", following the departure of one of its members. In spring 2016, Silvano and Michel, two childhood friends who had been on musical standby for some time , decided to form “Black Roses”, a hard-rock oriented band. Quickly, Martin who plays the drums in a cover band and Jean-Marc (also bassist of the group Burnham Lads Club) are recruited and a few months later, it was Patrick's turn, for the position of singer.

Following strong dissensions within the band, Michel leaves "Black Roses", letting them without rhythmic guitarist and obliging them to unfortunately cancel two concerts planned. There followed a period of doubts and questioning in order to determine what follow-up to bring to the group and in what form. They had decided to find a replacement, but despite the large number of auditions, no musician did the trick.

Thus in September 2017, they decided to “erase” everything: continue in the form of a quartet - Patrick taking over the position of rhythm guitarist in addition to that of singer - reorienting the musical style towards alternative rock / metal and therefore , of course, to change the name… which will be “Reign the Darkness! "

Mainly driven by the new rhythm guitarist and singer, the new compositions are now articulated around sub-tuned instruments, an alternation of clear vocals and growl, all supported by this mixture of fairly heavy riffs and harmonies melodious… all ingredients typical of alternative metal.

Some songs are quickly finalized and the group performs on a small local stage, for a first concert where it obtains a certain success of esteem (for its energy and its availability). A few concerts later and the repertoire growing more and more, they decided to enter the recording studio in order to self-produce a mini EP and this is how in February 2019, at Rec Studio, under the leadership of Serge Morattel (sound engineer who recorded the albums Ordinary Monster and Lofofora's Trial of the Opposite) that the group recorded three titles. A video clip shot in spring 2019 will follow, a few concerts and lots of projects in order to make a good place for yourself in the metal world!

For a few months now, the band has finally found a replacement for drummer, Benjamin (also drummer for Deafwish). Indeed, Martin decided to devote his life to other occupations / passions and after a few months of research, they found the one they call "the rare pearl"! They therefore embarked on the composition of new songs as well as intensive rehearsals so that Benjamin quickly learned the old songs, for future concerts.

About The Name...

After Black Roses, and with the new orientation, the band wanted a name that completely cut with the past. They were looking for something "voluntarily disturbing", in order to play on the dark image that we define of the musicians who play this musical genre. The exclamation mark highlights the theatrical side.

However, they are simple fathers of families, with a fairly simple life, but passionate about music!

Musical influences

Each member has different influences.

-Jean-Marc: New Wave bands from the 80s as well as Leonard Cohen and David Bowie.

-Silvano: Hard-Rock and Heavy bands of the 80s and 90s like Whitesnake, Iron Maiden, Scorpion or Metallica.

-Benjamin: System Of A Dawn, Machine Head, Diesel Machine.

-Patrick: mainly metal, from Behemoth or Dyscarnate, to Alter Bridge or Shindown but also John Mellencamp or Jacques Brel.

Anecdote(s)

"Proud? Yes… to have become friends and to be as healthy in our relationships, beyond our differences and the pitfalls that each of us crosses. We never had a word higher than the other, not a single tension in the composition or choice process for the band, all subjects can be approached and discussed, both musically and personally and we have a motivation to wanting to become professionals quite amazing at our ages (smiles). That's what I'm most proud of anyway. "
